Jupiter is the fifth and largest planet in the Solar System. It is a gas giant with a giant red spot and at least 95 moons. Jupiter is so big that 1,300 Earths could fit inside it. Jupiter spins the fastest out of any planet in the Solar System. A single day on the planet lasts 10 hours, but a year on Jupiter is 11.9 Earth years. The giant red spot, also known as the Great Red Spot, is actually a highly-pressurized storm with winds up to 450 miles per hour. The 4 largest moons of Jupiter are Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. Because the astronomer Galileo discovered them, they are called the Galilean Moons. Jupiter's extremely strong gravity actually pulls many comets and asteroids away from Earth, therefore protecting us.
